Student Service Hours
To: All 6th, 7th, and 8th Graders
Re: Qualifications for Service Hours
Please remember to evaluate your service hours against these criteria when listing them on your service sheet. The hours you need are listed below. 6th and 7th graders: Your 4th quarter Religion grade will be affected by the completion of the minimum number of service hours. 8th graders: Your graduation is tied to the completion of these hours. You will not receive your diploma unless the minimum number of hours is met. Five of these hours must be completed here at school or church. The other 20 may be completed anywhere as long as they meet the other criteria listed below.
• Hours may be earned between April 1, 2009 and March 31, 2010.
• Hours must be recorded on the record sheet provided by the school.
• Service record sheets must be in a pocket folder.
• The folder and the service record sheet inside should be labeled with your name and homeroom.
• Service folders are due on March 31, 2010 this year.
Number of hours needed:
6th grade: 15 hours
7th grade: 20 hours
8th grade: 25 hours
1. Hours must be earned outside of school day time. Cannot include serving Mass or monitoring a class at the school Masses.
2. Hours must involve no pay of any kind.
3. Hours should not be related to family chores such as babysitting for siblings, cleaning house, or yard work. These are responsibilities we have within our families.
4. Be sure to have your hours signed off by the sponsor of the activity you participated in. Do this on a regular basis. It is difficult for sponsors to remember names of helpers and hours worked two-three-four months after the activity!
5. Ask if you are unsure!
6. Please remember that all service folders, with the service record sheet inside, must be turned in on time (last day is March 31st, 2010 ). Late service folders/record sheets and loose record sheets will be penalized.
Remember, what we do here is based on Matt. 13:12-15. We have a beautiful Catholic tradition of service to others. So “keep up the good work”-literally!
